The Rhode Island Civic
Chorale & Orchestra, Rhode Island’s oldest continuing community choral ensemble, proudly announces its 2nd
Annual COLLEGIATE VOCAL SOLO COMPETITION. This year, four winners in
the categories of Soprano, Mezzo-soprano (or Alto), Tenor and Baritone (or
Bass) will appear as soloists with the Rhode Island Civic Chorale &
Orchestra in its March 20, 2010
concert. The work on the program which will include the winning soloists
is Mozart’s Missa Brevis in C
Major, KV220 (Spatzenmesse).
In addition to the
opportunity to appear as soloists with the Rhode Island Civic Chorale &
Orchestra and to receive the publicity prior to the performance, each
winning contestant will receive a remuneration of one hundred dollars.
Each entrant should be prepared to sing an aria or art song of his/her
choice in addition to the Christe and Benedictus sections of
the Mozart.
The competition will
take place on Saturday, January
23, 2010 between 10 AM and 4 PM in the Bobby Hackett Hall at the Community
College of Rhode Island - Knight campus.
An accompanist will be provided.
The entrant must be
enrolled as a student at one of Rhode Island’s institutions of higher education at the time of the audition and must
be recommended by a teacher at his/her institution. The recommendation may
be made simply by signature in the application. The adjudicators are three
of New England’s most respected
singers, none of whom lives in the State of Rhode Island nor has an
affiliation with any college in the state. Each has appeared on numerous
occasions as a soloist with the Chorale.
Upon receipt of the
application, the entrant will be assigned an audition time.
A $25 entry fee in the form of a check made payable to RICCO should
accompany the application form, which is due by December 19 at our address
below.
