Application Form - 2009
Collegiate Vocal Solo Competition

The Rhode Island Civic Chorale & Orchestra, Rhode Island’s oldest continuing community choral ensemble, proudly announces its 2nd Annual COLLEGIATE VOCAL SOLO COMPETITION.  This year, four winners in the categories of Soprano, Mezzo-soprano (or Alto), Tenor and Baritone (or Bass) will appear as soloists with the Rhode Island Civic Chorale & Orchestra in its March 20, 2010 concert.   The work on the program which will include the winning soloists is Mozart’s Missa Brevis in C Major, KV220 (Spatzenmesse).

In addition to the opportunity to appear as soloists with the Rhode Island Civic Chorale & Orchestra and to receive the publicity prior to the performance, each winning contestant will receive a remuneration of one hundred dollars.   Each entrant should be prepared to sing an aria or art song of his/her choice in addition to the Christe and Benedictus sections of the Mozart.

The competition will take place on Saturday, January 23, 2010 between 10 AM and 4 PM in the Bobby Hackett Hall at the Community College of Rhode Island - Knight campus.  An accompanist will be provided.

The entrant must be enrolled as a student at one of Rhode Island’s institutions of higher education at the time of the audition and must be recommended by a teacher at his/her institution.  The recommendation may be made simply by signature in the application.  The adjudicators are three of New England’s most respected singers, none of whom lives in the State of Rhode Island nor has an affiliation with any college in the state.  Each has appeared on numerous occasions as a soloist with the Chorale.

Upon receipt of the application, the entrant will be assigned an audition time.  A $25 entry fee in the form of a check made payable to RICCO should accompany the application form, which is due by December 19 at our address below.
